Bank Guarantee, explained
What is the difference between a Bank Guarantee and a Letter of Credit?
A BG is a fallback promise to pay only if you default on an obligation. A Letter of Credit is a primary payment mechanism typically used to settle a trade transaction directly.
Do I need 100% cash margin for a BG?
Not always. Depending on your credit profile and relationship with the bank, margin requirements can range from around 10% to 25%+ of the BG value, with the balance covered against your sanctioned limits or other collateral.
How long does BG issuance typically take?
Once documentation is complete, banks on our panel typically issue within 2–6 working days depending on the bank, ticket size and whether you’re an existing customer. BharatBG’s case management is aimed at cutting delays caused by incomplete paperwork or slow internal routing.
Can a surety bond replace a Bank Guarantee?
For many government tenders and contracts, yes — insurance surety bonds are now accepted as an alternative to a BG by a growing list of departments and PSUs. See our Surety Bonds page for details.
